Human Trafficking Awareness Month

I just wanted to post this quick blog for any who have missed some of the recent "Morning" shows with V. and CJ. Here is the show from February 16. The Dynamic Duo has been breaking down the sudden string of child sex trafficking and pedophile arrests that have been taking place from coast to coast.

Hundreds of perps have been arrested and hundreds of children have been rescued. Now, to keep the facts straight, we shall let the record show that law enforcement agencies pay special attention to this crime at this time of year. January was designated as Human Trafficking Awareness Month back in 2007 as a tag-along to Black History Month with its emphasis on slavery. So the sting operations that have been springing their traps in the past few weeks were set long before Donald Trump won the election.

Nevertheless, that doesn't take anything away from the new president nor from efforts that will no doubt be made by newly confirmed Attorney General, Jeff Sessions. We certainly didn't hear about massive national sting operations at this time last year. Let's hope the roundup continues. And based on the classless tweet earlier this week by Hillary Clinton, there seems to be a huge connection between #PizzaGate and the take-down of National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, as laid out earlier at RM by James the Russian Analyst [linked here].

To Get Help for Child Trafficking Victims

As part of public awareness of this national plague, this page at PolarisProject.org [linked here] starts off with a great little online quiz that you can take to test yourself on how aware YOU are about this epidemic.

The federal government has set up a National Human Trafficking Resource Center Hotline toll-free at: 888-373-7888. If you are a person reading this page and are caught up in a human trafficking situation, you can text the words "BeFree" to 233733.

There are numerous Facebook pages that you can reach out to for support like this one:

Also, this page at the National Child Traumatic Stress Network has a ton of resources to which you can avail yourself for professional assistance in the aftermath of trauma that a rescue child will experience. [linked here]

Coach Sandusky Case

For those who want to keep tabs on the Penn State scandal that involved Coach Sandusky, there is a seemingly endless Wikipedia page about it [linked  here].

There are remarkably few books about the case. As you may remember, Sandusky was convicted on June 22, 2012 in a case brought against him by just one of his many victims. He'll be spending the rest of his life in prison.

Meanwhile, the financial settlements being made by Penn State with the victims march onward and upward. To-date, that schools has dished out nearly $100,000,000. But we may never know the full amount due to the confidentiality of the negotiations. That Wikipedia article states this:

On April 9, 2015, Penn State trustees voted to approve a settlement with “one or more” victims from the child sexual abuse scandal involving Jerry Sandusky. While both the victims involved and the amount of the settlement remained confidential, another step was taken to provide justice to those whom had suffered at the hands of Sandusky. As of November 27, 2015, the total amount that Penn State owed victims of the Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal was close to $93 million.
An audit of the university’s financial statements for the 2015 year (ending June 30) revealed that Penn State had made new payments totaling $33.2 million that were all related to the actions of Jerry Sandusky. The audit also indicated that Penn State has already paid or agreed to pay 32 claims relevant to this matter.

Let's hope that all the evidence now being gathered in the hundreds of arrests that have gone down in the last month will finally work its way to the top of the national dung heap.
